TJ Dillashaw’s long-awaited return to the octagon will have to be delayed.

Dillashaw had been set to bring an end to a two-year suspension against Cory Sandhagen on May 8th, however, Dillashaw has announced that he is out of the main event bout after receiving a cut over one of his eyes – caused by an accidental head-butt in training.

The former bantamweight champion broke the news via his social media on Tuesday with the hope of rescheduling the contest “as soon as possible”.

Dillashaw would fail a drug test for EPO (erythropoietin) surrounding his TKO loss to Henry Cejudo in 2019 and subsequently vacated his bantamweight championship following the news.

Following the setback for his return, the May 8th event is now slated to be headlined by a women’s strawweight clash between the #6 and #9 ranked contenders Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson respectively.
