UFC lightweight Ottman Azaitar has been released by the UFC one day removed from an appearance on UFC 257’s PPV event.

The undefeated Azaitar (13-0) had been expected to face Matt Frevola on Saturday but following a ‘Safety Zone Violation’ of the promotion’s ‘Fight Island’ COVID-19 bubble, the German-Moroccan fighter has been cut from the UFC roster.

“UFC is aware of a recent violation of the health and safety protocols involving Ottman Azaitar. As such, Azaitar has been removed from the safety zone and his upcoming bout against Matt Frevola has been cancelled,” a statement provided by the UFC reads.

“The organization continues to keep the health and safety of all participants as the top priority and will take action against anyone that does not adhere to the strict measures put in place.”

With Azaitar removed from roster, his originally scheduled opponent Matt Frevola will now face Arman Tsarukyan in the main event of the preliminary portion of UFC 257.

Tsarukyan had been slated to face Nasrat Haqparast tomorrow but illness has seen Haqparast unable to compete.
