A high-ranking light heavyweight clash is set to headline a February event per UFC president Dana White.
As reported by ESPN, a 205 lbs contest between former title challenger Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka will act as the main event for a February 27th event in 2021.
Reyes (12-2) is currently on a two-fight skid with both of those losses coming in light heavyweight title fights. After amassing a 6-0 promotional record, Reyes would challenge Jon Jones at UFC 247 and lost via a contentious and debated unanimous decision. Jones would then vacate his 205 lbs championship later in the year, leaving top contenders Reyes and Jan Blachowicz to battle for the vacant title at UFC 253. The current #2 ranked contender would go on to lose to Blachowicz via second-round TKO.
Prochazka (27-3-1) meanwhile is currently on an 11-fight undefeated streak having claimed the RIZIN light heavyweight championship during that time. Upon his contract expiring with the Japanese promotion, Prochazka would sign with the UFC in January of this year and successfully won his first bout under the UFC banner with a second-round KO over former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir. The Czech fighter is currently ranked #5 in the promotion’s light heavyweight rankings and has won all but one of his career victories inside the scheduled distance.
