After Glover Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19 last month, Thiago Santos has now also been diagnosed with the virus causing their bout to be further postponed.
UFC president Dana White confirmed on Tuesday that Santos had tested positive for coronavirus and so their rescheduled bout for October 3rd will now be pushed back once again.
The light heavyweight contest was originally pencilled in to main event last weekend’s UFC Fight Night 177 before being moved into a co-main event slot for UFC on ESPN 16.
Santos (21-7) has been sidelined for over a year through injuries sustained in his controversial loss to then light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Suffering a torn left LCL, PCL, MCL, meniscus and cracked tibia in his left leg, along with a partially torn right ACL, Santos would lose a closely contested split decision with Jones in July 2019.
Teixeira (31-7) meanwhile is currently on a four-fight winning streak. Starting his current run in January 2019, Teixeira has defeated both Karl Roberson and Ion Cutelaba via submission before a split decision nod over Nikita Krylov. The 40-year old would most recently compete in May where he defeated Anthony Smith via fifth-round TKO.
