After a lot of hype surrounding his first main event, Edmen Shahbazyan was on the receiving end of a tough lesson at the hands of veteran Derek Brunson.
Despite a close first round in which both men operated at a high pace, Derek Brunson began to pull away in the second round before forcing an early stoppage in the third.
With a barrage of ground and pound to close out the second, referee Herb Dean was close to ending the bout then and there but with a doctor surveying the damage in between rounds, the 23-year old Shahbazyan was given the green light to enter just the second third round of his young career.
Straight out of the gates, however, Brunson quickly put Shahbazyan back to the mat and just a few shots on the ground saw Herb Dean wave off the contest.
Meanwhile in the co-main event, Joanne Calderwood’s gamble with what looked to be a guaranteed title shot did not pay off as Jennifer Maia snatched up a first-round armbar.
