Henry Cejudo vs. Jose Aldo set as UFC 250 main event
Despite losing his lone bantamweight contest, Jose Aldo will challenge for the UFC’s 135 lbs championship in May.
Confirmed by UFC president Dana White to ESPN, bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo will look to defend his title in Aldo’s backyard as he takes on the Brazilian in Sao Paulo at UFC 250 on May 9th.
Cejudo (15-2) is currently a two-weight champion after the flyweight champion picked up the vacant bantamweight title in his last outing with a third-round TKO win over Marlon Moraes. Cejudo is set to officially vacate his flyweight crown this week however in order to focus on the bantamweight division. ‘The Messenger’ will enter UFC 250 on a five-fight winning streak after having defeated Wilson Reis, Sergio Pettis, Demetrious Johnson, TJ Dillashaw and Moraes across two weight classes.
Aldo (28-6) meanwhile is currently on a two-fight losing streak having dropped decisions to Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Moraes. Following his loss to the now featherweight champion Volkanovski, Aldo announced a move to the bantamweight division in late 2019. Aldo, a former long-reigning featherweight champion, would go on to lose a close fight to Moraes in his sole 135 lbs bout, his fourth loss in his last six.
