Jared Cannonier undergoes surgery on torn pectoral
Jared Cannonier’s potential UFC 248 bout against Darren Till has been officially ruled out.
After suffering a torn pectoral muscle earlier this month, Cannonier has undergone surgery on the injury per his manager Lou DiBono via ESPN.
DiBono told ESPN that he was hoping Cannonier would make a return before the autumn, optismistically saying: “I think he’ll bounce back relatively quickly.”
Cannonier (13-4) had originally been scheduled to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 but Whittaker soon withdrew from the contest after it’s announcement citing personal reasons. Cannonier was then tipped to act as a reserve for the PPV event’s middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero, all the while discussions were held over a potential match-up with Darren Till.
Till would go on to claim to have accepted the fight with Cannonier for UFC 248 last week, however, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ took to Instagram to announced his injury.
Cannonier is currently ranked as the UFC’s #4 middleweight contender after procuring a perfect 3-0 record at 185 lbs.
