After the Bellator middleweight championship was vacated by Rafael Lovato Jr earlier in the week, the promotion have wasted no time in lining up his successor.

Announced by Bellator president Scott Coker on Tuesday, former champion Gegard Mousasi will take on welterweight champion Douglas Lima at Bellator 243, an event set to be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Ryan Bader and Vadim Nemkov.

Mousasi (46-7-2) last competed at Bellator 228 where he rebounded from losing his Bellator 185 lbs title to Lovato Jr with a split decision win over Lyoto Machida. Mousasi’s win over Machida secured his ninth win in his last 10 bouts, five of which coming under the Bellator banner.

Lima (32-7) meanwhile reclaimed his 170 lbs championship in October after successfully winning the promotion’s welterweight grand prix. After losing his championship to Rory MacDonald prior to the tournament’s start, Lima would defeat Andrei Koreshkov and Michael ‘Venom’ Page to reach the final where he defeated MacDonald via unanimous decision.
