For the second fight in a row, Jon Jones may well count himself lucky to still be UFC light heavyweight champion.
Edging a closely contested bout on all three judges scorecards, one judge scoring a very perculiar 49-46, Jones’ quality of work both defensively and offensively was seemingly given the nod over Reyes’ output.
With Reyes providing more strikes landed in the first three bouts, the final two rounds saw Jones take a more discernable advantage than those that had come before.
Nevertheless, the judges’ cageside deemed Jones the victor ensuring that ‘Bones’ would now hold the promotional record for the most wins in title fights.
Meanwhile in the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko’s technical superiority would shine through against Katlyn Chookagian as the UFC flyweight champion chalked up her third title defence after bringing about a third-round TKO on the mat.
