A rematch of UFC 237’s main event is reportedly in the works for the UFC’s big April PPV.
With ESPN’s Ariel Helwani the first to break the news, Rose Namajunas is set to make her first visit to the Octagon since losing to Jessica Andrade as the two fighters are close to finalising a second bout between the pair.
With Andrade emerging victorious in their first bout thanks to one of the knockouts of the year – and claiming the UFC’s strawweight championship in the process – their second outing is now slated for UFC 249 in Brooklyn, New York on April 18th.
Namajunas (8-4) has yet to enter the Octagon since losing to Andrade in May 2019 and even toyed with the decision to walk away from the sport. With a rematch now on the cards, however, ‘Thug Rose’ will be hoping to return to the winning ways that saw her record back-to-back wins over Joanna Jedrzejczyk in consecutive title fights.
Andrade (20-7) meanwhile will also enter UFC 249 coming off of a loss as ‘Bate Estaca’ would go on to lose her 115 lbs championship in her first attempted title defence against Zhang Weili in August 2019.
UFC 249 is now expected to feature:
- Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson – lightweight title fight
- Rose Namajunas vs. Jessica Andrade
- Uriah Hall vs. Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza
