Dana White reveals talks with Claressa Shields
Two-time Olympic gold medallist and undisputed boxing champion Claressa Sheilds could be set to make her move over into the Octagon per UFC president Dana White.
Shields has gone undefeated in her professional boxing career thus far (9-0) and became the undisputed middleweight champion (152-165 lbs) earlier this year. With such a dominant resume to her name, talk of a potential fight with two-weight UFC champion Amanda Nunes has been bandied about for 2020.
Ahead of this weekend’s UFC 245, where Nunes will defend her bantamweight title against Germaine de Randamie, Dana White revealed to BT Sport that he is in fact interested in bringing Shields into the world of MMA and has even held talks with her camp concerning the move.
“Claressa Shields is coming [to UFC 245],” White said. “She’ll be here Saturday to watch the fight. She’s coming to watch the fight, and I will be honest with you, Claressa Shields’ people and I have talked. I don’t know, we’ll see. We’ve talked.
“I know they’re both interested in it, too. We’ll see how this whole thing plays out. We have a lot of respect for her, too, and she’s going to come to the fight and should be fun.”
