A lightweight title eliminator has been confirmed for the UFC’s first visit to New Zealand since 2017.

Announced via the UFC’s Australia and New Zealand Twitter page, Paul Felder is set to take on Auckland’s own Dan Hooker on February 23rd at UFC Fight Night 169.

Felder (17-4) is currently ranked as the UFC’s #6 lightweight contender after putting together a five-fight winning streak at the 155 lbs limit. While ‘The Irish Dragon’s’ overall undefeated streak is broken up by a one-fight foray to the welterweight division, Felder’s lightweight run includes wins over the likes of Charles Oliveira, James Vick and Edson Barboza.

Hooker (19-8) similarly will also enter UFC: Auckland on a two-fight winning streak. While ‘The Hangman’ saw a four-fight stoppage victory run come to an end at the hands of Edson Barboza in 2018, Hooker has since defeated James Vick and Al Iaquinta in back-to-back fights, earning himself a spot as the #7 ranked lightweight contender.

In addition to the confirmation of UFC Fight Night 169’s main event, the UFC has announced that Magomed Mustafaev vs. Brad Riddell, Jake Matthews vs. Emil Weber Meek, Tyson Pedro vs. Vinicius Moreira and Ben Sosoli vs. Marcos Rogério de Lima will also be featured on the 2020 card.
