Maycee Barber vs. Roxanne Modafferi added to UFC 246
One of the fastest rising prospects in MMA will take on a true veteran of the sport in her next outing.
With MMAJunkie being the first to report the news, the current #10 ranked UFC flyweight contender Maycee Barber is set to take on the #9 ranked Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246 on January 18th after a verbal agreement was reached with both fighters.
Barber (8-0) entered the UFC in 2018 via Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series and has since put together a three-fight TKO winning run within the promotion. ‘The Future’ last fought at UFC on ESPN 6 last month where she defeated fellow prospect Gillian Anderson in the first round. Barber is just 21-years old and has openly set her goal as becoming the youngest UFC champion in history, a feat held by Jon Jones at 23-years old.
Modafferi (23-16) meanwhile has exchanged wins and losses since rejoining the UFC in 2017, starting with a decision loss against Nicco Montano for the inaugural UFC flyweight championship. The 37-year old last competed at UFC on ESPN 4 in July where she suffered a unanimous decision loss to Jennifer Maia. ‘The Happy Warrior’ started her professional MMA career in 2003, five years after Barber was born.
UFC 246 is set to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada and is now expected to feature:
- Conor McGregor vs. TBA
- Maycee Barber vs. Roxanne Modafferi
- Drew Dober vs. Nasrat Haqparast
- Grant Dawson vs. Chas Skelly
