Jorge Masvidal will go down as the ‘BMF’ champion after a dominant three rounds but the fight against Nate Diaz will be marred in controversy following a questionable doctor stoppage in between rounds.
Masvidal opened up the fight landing big shots in the clinch and opened up an all-important cut with an elbow-to-high kick combination that dropped Diaz to his back.
Masvidal would continue both the second and third round in much of the same vein as heavy overhand rights and body kicks kept Diaz at bay and struggling to implement his own offence.
With the third round over however, the ringside doctor deemed Diaz’s cut over his right eyebrow too deep despite the disappointment of both the fighters and Madison Square Garden crowd.
