After a strong start by the Bellator heavyweight champion, Ryan Bader’s first title defence was ultimately ruled a no-contest thanks to a dubious eye poke on Cheick Kongo.
Bader quickly took charge of the bout against his challenger as he scored a trip following some strong work in the clinch. As Kongo attempted to post up against the cage, however, Bader’s ground and pound was deemed to have included an errant eye poke despite replays proving inconclusive.
Kongo remained adamant that he had been poked nevertheless and forced the bout to be abandoned.
