Coming off of arguably the best performance of her career, Alexa Grasso will be rewarded with a home crowd fight against a former UFC champion.
As first reported by Milenio before official confirmation, the #11 ranked strawweight contender Alexa Grasso will take on the UFC’s inaugural strawweight champion Carla Esparza in Mexico City, Mexico on September 21st.
Grasso (11-2) competed as recently as UFC 238 where she put on a dominant performance against former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The 25-year old has struggled for consistency inside the Octagon however as Grasso has exchanged wins and losses in her last five fights.
Esparza (14-6) meanwhile snapped a two-fight losing streak in her last outing as the 31-year old defeated Virna Jandiroba via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 150. Esparza holds the distinction of being the UFC’s inaugural strawweight champion having defeated Rose Namajunas via a third-round rear-naked choke in 2014.
