After being on the receiving end of a calm and composed striking performance from Rose Namajunas, Jessica Andrade scored a nasty looking slam in the second-round that knocked out the champion and sent the Brazilian crowd into raptures.
Through the use of her speed and distance management on the feet, Namajunas looked to be putting in one of the best performances of her short career as she dominated the first round.
Entering the second stanza however, Andrade began to close the distance between the two fighters and found herself in close. From there, Namajunas looked to hold onto Andrade’s arm in similar fashion to a slam attempt in the first-round but the angle of which Namajunas landed looked for painful reading. Landing almost squarely on her neck, Namajunas was left knocked out on the mat and Andrade as the new UFC strawweight champion.
Elsewhere, UFC 237 also saw a TKO injury loss for Anderson Silva as a Jared Cannonier kick looked to blow out his knee while Alexander Volkanovski cemented his position as the #1 contender in the featherweight division with a unanimous decision win over Jose Aldo.
