Cage Warriors 104 Results: Shore VS. Malone
Cage Warriors 104 definitely lived up to its billing as the ‘Battle of Britain’ as all of the Welsh fighters on the card emerged victorious with crowd singalongs to ‘Land Of My Fathers’ ringing around the Viola Arena in Cardiff.
Jack Shore comfortably defeated Scott Malone in the third round of the main event to retain his title. After stuffing a takedown attempt, Shore submitted the challenger via rear-naked choke. He maintains his unbeaten professional record and is now 11-0-0 inside the Octagon.
Although Cage Warriors confirmed that Shore will defend his title again on 12th October, a UFC deal seems more than likely after such an emphatic performance.
Mason Jones was promoted to co-main after former UFC middleweight Tom Watson was removed from the card early Saturday. Watson was not cleared on medical grounds. ‘The Dragon’ earned a unanimous decision win over Belgian veteran Donovan Desmae with a dominant display of his skills. Desmae scrambled for a submission in the final round but Jones finished the fight by landing a string of powerful elbow strikes. Jones subsequently called for a shot at the Cage Warriors Lightweight title.
Jamie Richardson won the comeback fight of the night in a thrilling shootout with Phil Wells. After being dropped late in the second round and visibly hurt in the third, ‘Young Gun’ unloaded a barrage of strikes that blasted Wells and secured a TKO victory.
Also on the main card, teenage star Cory McKenna improved her professional record to 3-1. Trained by Team Alpha Male coach Urijah Faber, the young female fighter got back in the win column with a second-round submission over Fannie Redman. Redman initially tried to resist but finally tapped out after McKenna maintained a strong rear-naked choke. McKenna proceeded to thank Faber for his extra work during her training camp in her post-fight interview.
In the first fight on the main card, Jack Shore’s Tillery Combat teammate Kris Edwards improved his overall record to 13-11 with a well-fought unanimous decision over Sunderland fighter Josh Abraham.
