Just a week removed from losing a light heavyweight title fight, Anthony Smith is all set to take on another recent title challenger.
As first reported by ESPN, Smith is expected to take on Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC: Stockholm on June 1st.
Gustafsson (18-5) most recently challenged Jon Jones for the 205 lbs title at UFC 232 where he lost via third-round TKO, the second time Gustafsson has lost to Jones. The Swedish fighter has gone 3-3 in his last six fights and his next bout with Smith will mark the second time in three fights that ‘The Mauler’ will fight in Stockholm, Sweden.
Smith (31-14) meanwhile will also enter UFC: Stockholm on the back of a loss to Jon Jones after being on the wrong end of a unanimous decision at UFC 235. Smith had gone 3-0 since moving up to light heavyweight prior to the Jones fight and ‘Lionheart’ is currently ranked #4 in the UFC’s 205 lbs rankings.
