Just hours before UFC 234, UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has been forced out of his scheduled title defence against Kelvin Gastelum with a hernia.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto broke the news following a conversation with UFC president Dana White and the event will continue with the original co-main event of Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva as the new headline act.

White told ESPN that Whittaker complained of pain in his abdomen the night before UFC 234 and was taken to hospital as a result. Whittaker would then be diagnosed with a hernia and is set to undergo surgery.
