Making their promotional debut in Wichita, Kansas on March 9th, the UFC has announced seven bouts for the event, including a heavyweight blockbuster main event.
Made official for the headline berth, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will take on the most recent title challenger in Derrick Lewis in a five-round fight.
Dos Santos (20-5) most recently defeated Tai Tuivasa in the main event of UFC Fight Night 142 and extended his winning streak to two with a second-round TKO. ‘JDS’ picked up the UFC title in 2011 with a first-round knockout over Cain Velasquez but only defended the belt once before losing a rematch with Velasquez. ‘Cigano’ would go on to challenge for the heavyweight title two more times but lost both via TKO to Stipe Miocic and Velasquez once again.
Lewis (21-6, 1 NC) meanwhile most recently lost via second-round submission to Daniel Cormier at UFC 230 in New York. Prior to his defeat to Cormier, Lewis had won nine of his last 10 in the UFC with seven of those victories coming via KO.
In addition to the heavyweight main event, UFC: Wichita will also feature two more heavyweight contests as Ben Rothwell will return to the Octagon after a USADA suspension against Blagoy Ivanov while Daniel Spitz will face Jeff Hughes.
The March 9th event has also seen four more intriguing bouts added to the card as Beneil Dariush will face Drew Dober, Sergio Moraes takes on Anthony Rocco Martin, former title challenger Yana Kunitskaya fights Marion Reneau and a middleweight bout between Tim Boetsch and Omari Akhmedov.
