UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has tipped Khabib Nurmagomedov to overcome Conor McGregor at UFC 229.
However, Woodley believes that Khabib needs to be wary of the threat posed by his Irish opponent and he admitted that McGregor has the power to win this fight by knockout.
Woodley successfully defended his welterweight title against Darren Till at UFC 228 with a submission victory in the second round and is excited to watch the main event of UFC 229 next month.
When speaking on ESPN’s UFC 228 post-fight show about the fight, he said:
These guys are each other’s kryptonite. The timing of Conor McGregor… he might be one of the best at that, so if Khabib comes forward with his head open for some straight lefts he could get lit up. It really depends on who closes the gap best.
If Khabib pressures him in the first round and has success, that’s the fight. If Conor can catch him and slip him then we might see him get the TKO.
If I had to flip a coin, I’d probably say Khabib just because I think he will deal with the emotion. A lot of guys can’t deal with the emotion.
[Conor] is going to mentally try to brainwash him but I think Khabib will be mentally strong enough for that not to happen; he’ll stick to the game plan.
Both fighters are confident that they can emerge victorious from the Octagon on October 6th in Las Vegas, with McGregor desperate to win back his lightweight title.
The fight is tipped to break the pay-per-view record and is being billed as the biggest fight in UFC history.
