Conor McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy believes that his fighter will knockout undefeated lightweight rival Khabib Nurmagomedov when they meet in the Octagon at UFC 229.
Both fighters have been eager to face one another and finally their wishes are going to come true on October 6th in Las Vegas.
The fight, which is being dubbed as the ‘biggest UFC event of all time’, promises to be an explosive one with both fighters looking for a career-defining win.
Roddy however, believes that McGregor’s left hand will be too much to handle for his Russian opponent and claims one clean connection could be enough to end the bout.
When speaking about the fight on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Roddy said:
I think Conor lands on the chin and puts him to sleep. I always give his opponent the benefit of the doubt because some people are tough and can take some more shots than others. But it’s only a matter of time. I think if Conor lands in the first, early, it could be done in the first.
Once he lands on the chin, you will all see it on Khabib’s face. Once he lands it’ll be lights out immediately or shortly after.
I’m expecting a KO, most definitely. Whether it’s the first or the second, I don’t know. But I will predict that he’s going to flatten him.
McGregor could be slightly rusty after having not fought in the UFC for nearly two years, an inactivity which resulted in him losing his lightweight title which was ultimately picked up by Nurmagomedov.
Both fighters will get the chance to prove that they are the worthy champion as the build-up and hype for the fight begins to accelerate.
