UPDATE: UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Whittaker vs Romero will take place as a five-round, non-title fight.

After two attempts to hit the 185 lbs mark, Yoel Romero has failed to make championship weight ahead of UFC 225.

Romero initially weighed in at 186 lbs when making his first attempt earlier today and was subsequently afforded an extra two-hour window to lose the remaining pound. Despite the Illinois State Athletic Commission’s extra leeway, Romero would weigh in at 185.2 lbs on his second effort meaning the Cuban fighter will not compete for the UFC middleweight championship against Robert Whittaker.

It is now uncertain whether the proposed fight will take place and makes Yoel Romero the first fighter in UFC history to miss weight ahead of two title fights.
