After the blockbuster UFC 217 was left unscathed by injury, it was only a matter of time before the UFC received another injury scourge.

With UFC 218 scheduled for next month, Frankie Edgar is out of his upcoming title fight with Max Holloway while Dominick Cruz has also been ruled out of his title eliminator bout with Jimmie Rivera at UFC 219.

Edgar is suspected to have suffered a broken orbital bone as first reported by Combate while Cruz has sustained a broken arm according to MMAFighting.

Despite Edgar’s withdrawal from the main event of UFC 218, Max Holloway is expected to remain on the card and look to defend his featherweight title for the first time. Cub Swanson, currently ranked #4 in the 145 lbs rankings, is heavily rumoured to step into the main event billing but would look for a new contract before accepting the bout.

Jimmie Rivera’s situation, however, is still unsure as to whether he will remain on the UFC 219 card following Cruz’s injury.
