With UFC 226 lined up as the main blockbuster event of the summer, the Las Vegas event has added a big bantamweight bout to its card.
As first reported by the Review Journal, #3 ranked Raphael Assuncao will take on Rob Font who is currently ranked #12.
Assuncao (26-5) has gone 10-1 during his UFC tenure as a bantamweight fighter dating back to 2011. The Brazilian’s lone loss at 135 lbs came at the hands of current champion TJ Dillashaw at UFC 200. The 35-year-old southpaw will head into UFC 226 on a three-fight win streak and most recently knocked out Matthew Lopez in November of last year.
Font (15-3) meanwhile has gone 5-2 during his time in the UFC with all of his victories coming via stoppage. The Massachusetts based fighter most recently scored a TKO victory over Thomas Almeida at UFC 220.
UFC 226 is set as the marquee event for the UFC’s annual ‘International Fight Week’ and is currently scheduled to have a champion vs champion bout in the main event as light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier challenges Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title.
