UFC 218 Results: Holloway vs Aldo
In a repeat showing of their first encounter, Max Holloway pilled the pressure on Jose Aldo until the Brazilian legend could take no more punishment in the third round.
By using his trademark jab and working the body throughout, Holloway battered away at Aldo for nearly 15 minutes and gave little away in return.
Once the bout had entered the third stanza, however, Holloway took his cue to increase the tempo even more and left the former champion struggling to keep up with the Hawaiians incredible work rate.
Left with no other choice than to try and get the fight to the ground, Aldo’s lone takedown attempt was shaken off by the ascending Holloway and a final barrage of strikes on the mat brought an early end to their fight in a near mirror image of their first bout in June.
Elsewhere, Francis Ngannou cemented his position as the number one contender to the heavyweight title with one of the scariest knockouts ever seen against Alistair Overeem while Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje delivered on their promise for a full-blown war with the former landing a thudding knee to bring a close to the contest in the final round.
