The hard-hitting John Lineker has received the call he had hoped for.

Stepping into the vacancy left by an injured Dominick Cruz, Lineker will now face off against the #4 ranked Jimmie Rivera at the UFC’s end of year show, UFC 219.

Since defeating Marlon Vera at UFC Fight Night 119 earlier this month, Lineker (30-8) has reiterated his desire to fight Rivera at UFC 219 and had previously stated that he had put himself on standby in case of an injury for that bout. The Brazilian bantamweight has gone 7-1 in his last eight bouts with his only loss coming at the hands of current champion T.J Dillashaw.

Rivera (21-1) meanwhile is currently on a 20-fight win streak dating back to 2009 and has defeated the Pedro Munhoz, Thomas Almeida and Urijah Faber during his UFC tenure.

UFC 219 is currently set to be headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino and Holly Holm on December 30th.
