With an abrupt end to a breathtaking bout, Dustin Poirier outlasted Anthony Pettis in a three-round fight that ended via an apparent rib injury.
Poirier and Pettis exchanged elbows and stellar scrambles on the mat throughout the contest but Pettis seemingly wore most of the damage caused by both men.
In the third round, Poirier secured his fifth takedown of the bout and looked to transition to mount from an initial body triangle. As ‘The Diamond’ looked to spin around his opponent, the force of Poirier’s transition against Pettis’ ribs looked too much for the former champion to bear and brought a close to an entertaining scrap.
