As the UFC gears up for a return to Madison Square Garden, MMA’s biggest promotion is repeating its past successes by adding a third title fight to its blockbuster New York event.

Officially announced by the UFC today, Joanna Jedrzejczyk will look to defend her strawweight title on November 4th as she takes on the number three ranked contender Rose Namajunas.

Jedrzejczyk (14-0) is currently the second longest reigning champion in the UFC and at UFC 217 will have the opportunity to tie the women’s record held by Ronda Rousey for consecutive title defences (6). Since winning the belt against Carla Esparza in 2015, Jedrzejczyk has successfully defended her championship against Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Andrade. UFC 217 will also mark the second time the Polish striker will fight at MSG as Jedrzejczyk defeated Kowalkiewicz in the UFC’s arena debut last year.

Namajunas (6-3) meanwhile will make a second attempt at claiming the women’s 115 lbs title after going 4-1 in her last five fights. ‘Thug Rose’ lost the inaugural strawweight title fight in just her fourth professional bout to Carla Esparza in 2014 but has since defeated Angela Hill, Paige VanZant, Tecia Torres and most recently submitted Michelle Waterson in April of this year.

UFC 217 is also set to feature a middleweight title fight between Michael Bisping and a returning Georges St-Pierre while Cody Garbrandt will defend his bantamweight title for the first time against rival TJ Dillashaw in the co-main event.
