Ray Borg out of UFC 215; main event cancelled
After battling illness, Ray Borg has been forced to withdraw from UFC 215’s main event this weekend.
With Borg unable to compete, Demetrious Johnson will now have to put his plans to break the UFC’s title defence record on hold with the flyweight title fight scrapped.
As a result, the women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko will now act as the new pay-per-view main event.
MMAFighting.com were the first to report the news and also spoke to Borg’s nutritionist, Dr. Michelle Ingels, concerning the title challengers withdrawal.
“It wasn’t weight related,” Dr. Ingels said. “Ray has been getting progressively more sick each day this week and still wanted to fight so badly that he put on a game face and went to all of his fight week obligations.
“However, prior to beginning the bulk of his weight cut the UFC doctor examined Borg and concluded that he was too ill to fight this week and needed time to rest and get better.”
With the Johnson-Borg fight now cancelled, the Henry Cejudo-Wilson Reis fight will now be promoted to the PPV main card.
