Reports: Cerrone injured; Lawler bout moving to UFC 214
With 10 days left until UFC 213, the marquee PPV event has taken it’s second major setback.
According to multiple reports, with MMAFighting.com the first to report so, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has sustained an injury which will force his bout with Robbie Lawler to be rescheduled.
Fortunately, Cerrone’s injury is not deemed a long-term one and the UFC will likely push the welterweight scrap to a date later that month at UFC 214.
The proposed Cerrone – Lawler fight had been scheduled once before but the original fight confirmation was a short-lived one as Lawler quickly deemed the fight too soon after losing his UFC welterweight title to Tyron Woodley.
UFC 213 is set to be headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko but the July 8th event was originally scheduled with the men’s bantamweight title to be contested between Cody Garbrandt and T.J Dillashaw in the main event.
A back injury to the champion Garbrandt forced the bout to be scrapped but the UFC ensured that UFC 213 would continue to feature two title fights and an interim middleweight title was created with Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker set to challenge for the belt.
