Holly Holm appeals UFC 208 loss due to ‘repeated strikes thrown after the horn’
At the post-fight press conference for UFC 208, Holly Holm felt that she didn’t deserve to lose the UFC’s inaugural women’s featherweight title bout due to the late strikes inflicted by her opponent Germaine de Randamie. As a result, Holm has now taken her complaints to the appropriate athletic commission.
Initially reported by MMAFighting, Holly Holm has officially taken the decision to appeal the result of her UFC 208 loss to Germaine de Randamie as well as to file a complaint against the bout’s referee Todd Anderson.
During the UFC 208 main event, referee Todd Anderson failed to separate both Holm and de Randamie at the conclusion of rounds two and three when the horn had sounded. While the official ruling states that the end of the round is marked by the referee’s instruction, de Randamie landed strikes clearly after the audible signal with her strikes at the end of round two, in particular, causing the former women’s bantamweight champion to stumble from the blows.
With an official appeal submitted, Holm and her attorneys, Paul Bardacke and Breanna Houghton, are asking the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) to review Anderson’s “failure to deduct one or more points from Germaine de Randamie following her repeated strikes thrown after the horn sounded to end Rounds 2 and 3.”
The complaint submitted states: “We respectfully request the commission review referee Anderson’s failure to assess a foul and render a decision regarding a point deduction following Round 2, and failure to assess a foul and a point deduction following Round 3, and determine an appropriate result.”
The loss to de Randamie marked Holm’s third consecutive loss in the UFC and is the longest losing streak in Holm’s combat sports career.
