UFC 203 Results: Miocic vs Overeem
Stipe Miocic sent his native Cleveland fans into pandemonium as he knocked out Alistair Overeem after a back and forth first round to successfully defend his UFC heavyweight championship.
Overeem looked to have secured his first UFC title after knocking Miocic to the ground with a heavy punch early in the fight before following up with a tight guillotine choke on the mat. Miocic had other ideas however and managed to scramble out of the submission attempt and piled on the pressure to the Dutch kickboxer with his technical boxing.
From then on Miocic chased Overeem down as he looked to reset in the middle of the Octagon but the heavy hands of Miocic consistently found their home and some massive ground and pound eventually finished the job.
In the co-main event, Fabricio Werdum dominated Travis Browne for three rounds despite some questionable scorecards that would suggest otherwise.
The Brazilian started out the bout with a running side kick to the face of Browne and set the tone of the following 15 minutes.
CM Punk also found himself on the end of a one-sided beatdown as Mickey Gall quickly took down the former professional wrestler in a matter of seconds and had complete control before securing a rear naked choke.
